What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file that a website or a service embedded in it stores on your device. Cookies let a service recognise your browser between visits, remember a preference, or measure how a site is used. They cannot read files on your device, and they do not contain your name, address or payment details unless you have typed those into a service yourself.
Cookies on this site
Our own pages do not require you to log in, and the site has no user accounts, no shop and no comment system, so we do not set cookies of our own to run it. The cookies described below come from two Google services that the site loads.
Analytics (Google Analytics)
We use Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, which pages are read, how readers arrive and how long they stay. It uses cookies to tell one browser from another and to group page views into visits. The figures we see are statistical summaries; we do not use them to identify individual readers. This tracking code loads after you start interacting with a page (for example by scrolling or clicking) or after a few seconds on the page.
Third-party advertising

What we do not use cookies for
- Logging you in, because there are no accounts on this site
- Storing your name, address, email address or any payment information
- Building a profile of you ourselves; any profiling for adverts is carried out by Google under its own policies
